Heroes Among Us: Polk County Search and Rescue Visits Our Club!

At our latest meeting, the General Federation of Women’s Club Polk County Service Club had the honor of hosting some real-life heroes—Polk County Search and Rescue! These incredible volunteers shared inspiring stories about their vital work, from helping lost hikers find their way to rescues off the Willamette River. They even assist other search and rescue organizations when needed!

But here’s the kicker: They’re entirely volunteer-run and rely on community support to keep saving lives. That’s right—no salaries, just pure dedication. Whether it’s buying new equipment or ensuring their team is ready to respond at a moment’s notice, they need our help.

Their visit was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the difference we can make together. Our club is excited to explore ways we can support these local heroes and help them continue their lifesaving mission and that includes sharing about their mission through our website. When they visited, we gave them a financial donation and also donated several of our GFWC blankets to them for folks who need them when they are rescued.
